Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP) has awarded the Association for the Healthcare Environment (AHE) an Education Grant

Chicago, April 25, 2013 - The Association for the Healthcare Environment of the American Hospital Association is the recipient of an education grant from Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP) to conduct a comprehensive literature review related to cleaning and surface disinfection for the purpose of developing a compendium of the most current studies. The Compendium will be titled, “The Role of the Healthcare Environment in the Transmission of Infection.”

AHE will identify and compile the literature from studies and trials that provide evidence of the impact of environmental factors on the transmission of infection. The literature also will serve as a guide to conduct an analysis of new research that will be useful to train staff and to drive ongoing cleaning and surface disinfection practice changes for continued performance excellence. The Compendium also will provide the foundation for development of new evidence-based environmental hygiene and infection prevention educational materials appropriate for use across all care settings.

“Pulling together past research into a compendium will help AHE fill the gaps with new research and strategies to drive changes on the ground,” said Patti Costello, AHE Executive Director. “The strategy most relevant to AHE and its members is to utilize evidence-based practices to improve quality and patient safety. We’ve developed the Compendium to share with our members strategies to address changes in the healthcare delivery system.”

“It is AHE’s goal to use the Compendium to identify areas where we will be most helpful to members navigating change, as well as to partner with AHA and other organizations,” said Mike Bailey CHESP, AHE’s president. “AHE is very pleased to collaborate with ASP on this important initiative and we look forward to launching the Compendium in the fall.”
