In early November, a group of eight ASP associates from the Information Technology (IT) department took to heart a core tenant of the Johnson & Johnson Credo and spent an afternoon giving back to the community in which we live. As part of this year’s United Way campaign, the volunteers traveled to the Giving Children Hope (GCH) center in Buena Park, Calif. to help “promote family sustainability, economic independence and self-sufficiency so that children may grow in stable environments.”
At GCH, the team worked on an ongoing effort called “We’ve Got Your Back,” a nutrition program for homeless students in the Orange County Unified School District. The program aims to ensure that the children (and their families) have food and basic necessities every week.
An ASP associate, is very proud of what they accomplished that day: “In just three hours, the eight of us were able to prepare over 100 backpacks with balanced food choices for distribution to three local schools. In addition, we organized thousands of products in the food supply warehouse by nutritional category and expiration date to help reduce waste and streamline distribution.”
A highlight of the experience was the chance to read letters that children had written to the organization, expressing their gratitude toward the volunteers for this program. “We were all deeply touched by the kind words, and more than one member of the team expressed a desire to return to volunteer again in the future,” says Andrew.
GCH was so thrilled with ASP’s support, they have already publically thanked us on their website:
“Some employees from Advanced Sterilization Products stopped by our warehouse … They moved so efficiently as they stocked shelves, filled backpacks and sorted them, that it feels like there were more than just 8 in their group … We appreciate the help they provided, and although we did have some cookies to offer them, we know that we cannot do enough to express our gratitude for their generosity.”
BRAVO to the ASP volunteers who took the time to support this cause and live Our Credo!
