Frequently Asked Questions
The following list represents the most frequently asked questions about the
STERRAD 100S Sterilization System. For more information, please contact ASP
Customer Support at 888-783-7723 or email aspservices@aspus.jnj.com.
- How do STERRAD Systems work?
The technology behind STERRAD Systems is based on hydrogen
peroxide gas plasma that rapidly sterilizes medical instruments without
leaving toxic residues. Utilizing this technology, STERRAD Systems sterilize
a variety of instruments and medical devices and are particularly suited to
heat- and moisture-sensitive instruments.
- How do I operate a STERRAD System?
STERRAD Systems offer simple, one-button operation with intuitive touch-pad
controls and easy-to-follow prompts and instructions.
- What are the installation requirements for a STERRAD System?
STERRAD Systems do not require a water source, heat booster, or ventilation
for installation. The STERRAD 100S System runs on 220-208 VAC, 20A, 50/60Hz
electrical outlets.
- Why would I choose a STERRAD 100S System?
The STERRAD 100S System facilitates high volume
sterilization. Its 55-minute cycle time is 14 times faster than a single
EtO
cycle, which means instruments are terminally sterilized and ready for use,
eliminating the need for duplicate inventories. An ASP representative is
available
to help you identify how the STERRAD
100S System will generate the greatest return for your investment. Please
call ASP Customer Support at 888-783-7723 or email aspservices@aspus.jnj.com for
more information.
- What devices and materials can I sterilize in a STERRAD 100S
System?
The STERRAD 100S System offers superior material
compatibility with 95% of metal and nonmetal devices including fiberoptic,
electronic, powered, and microsurgical devices as well as medical instruments
sensitive to heat and moisture. To find out which devices and materials are
compatible with the STERRAD 100S System, contact ASP Customer Support
at 888-783-7723 or email aspservices@aspus.jnj.com.
- What advantages do STERRAD Systems offer over peracetic acid,
steam, and EtO systems?
Using dry, low-temperature, gas plasma
technology, STERRAD Systems provide a faster cycle time than EtO.
Additionally, STERRAD Systems sterilize heat-stable as well as heat-sensitive
and moisture-sensitive instruments. STERRAD Systems are also gentler
on your delicate instruments, reducing instrument damage and repair costs,
especially as compared with peracetic acid systems. Optimized speed and versatility
increase the availability of ready-to-use instruments. Because they provide
multiple advantages over steam and EtO systems, STERRAD Systems provide
a greater return on investment.
Importantly, STERRAD Systems do not produce harmful by-products, eliminating
the need for aeration and ventilation. This makes STERRAD Systems safer
for both operators and the environment.
- Can STERRAD Systems be used to sterilize instruments typically
sterilized with steam or EtO?
Yes. In fact, STERRAD Systems
can be used to sterilize a wide range of instruments, including those sensitive
to heat and/or to moisture. STERRAD Systems achieve a 10-6
SAL (Sterility Assurance Level) of packaged instruments.
- What brand(s) of trays should be used with a STERRAD 100S System?
APTIMAX instrument trays have been specially designed for use in all
STERRAD Systems. APTIMAX
trays are also compatible with other sterilization technologies, including
EtO and steam. ASP offers a full line of mats and holders for use with APTIMAX
trays. Please check with ASP Customer Support at 888-783-7723 or
email aspservices@aspus.jnj.com
regarding compatibility of non-ASP tray systems.
- What kind of technical support do I get with a STERRAD 100S
System?
ASP offers responsive technical support 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year.
Knowledgeable technical support representatives will work quickly to identify
and resolve your technical issues. For technical support, please call ASP
